10 New Games to Look Out for in March 2021

January and February saw a handful of major game releases. March is just around the corner and with the warmer weather comes a wave of hot new releases. Available across multiple console generations as well as PC, these games largely feel like the first solid wave of games to drop after the post-holiday lull. From casual party games to indie hits, these are the games that you can't miss this month.

Ranch Simulator

Release Date: March 4, 2021
Platforms: Windows
Developer/Publisher: Toxic Dog, Excalibur Publishing

There have been any number of family-farm simulators launched over the years, with titles like Stardew Valley and Farming Simulator 19 getting the most attention from gamers. Ranch Simulator takes a wildly different approach to the genre, prioritizing a kind of gritty realism over the fantasy worlds that are found in so many other farming games. Players are tasked with taking a run-down family farm and building it up into a working ranch, renovating a home and defending their property along the way. This game presents a whole new way to farm and ranch, giving players yet another way to get back to nature while also dealing with the economic realities of trying to keep a ranch running.

Stronghold: Warlords

Release Date: March 9, 2021
Platforms: Windows
Developer/Publisher: Firefly Studios

Stronghold: Warlords is a return to form for the classic series, transporting the tried and true castle-based gameplay to East Asia as players are given a chance to build up their own economies and engage in detailed siege warfare battles. Warlords brings something new to the mix this time, though, with the inclusion of the titular Warlords. Now players can not only battle their way through a lengthy campaign or quick-play scenarios on their own, but they can also enlist the help of AI warlords to join their cause. This game is an intense RTS that really stands out in today's market, with a good balance of old-school mechanics and newer innovations.

Mundaun

Platforms: Windows, PS4, XBO, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S

Mundaun is a remarkably modern horror game that feels like it was imported from another generation. Whether it's the hand-penciled aesthetics or the lonely atmosphere, Mundaun will make you feel like you're walking into a world that would've made sense long ago. The real star of this game is the titular mountain, a place where players will balance trying to survive with solving puzzles. The story of Mundaun is definitely one worth checking out, but even those who aren't big on mysteries will still find something to love in this unique game. With a fantastic atmosphere and a host of different gameplay elements, this is one game that's going to really stand out in March.

Minute of Islands is a narrative puzzle platform with a truly gorgeous aesthetic. The game feels like it was lovingly drawn by hand, aping the style of great animators and delivering a level of fluidity that's hard to match. Players will take on the role of Mo, a tinkerer who lives on an island dominated by ancient, giant machines. Mo's journey will see her set out to discover the secrets of the island and to combat a mysterious threat, all while requiring her to grapple with the truth of what's really going on in her homeland. Minute of Islands features fantastic environmental puzzles and a great narrative hook, leaving it another must-play this month.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat

Release Date: March 23, 2021
Platforms: Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
Developer/Publisher: Ghost Town Games, Team17 Digital

Overcooked was one of those quietly amazing multiplayer games that just about anyone could sit down and play. Overcooked 2 took that formula and threw in some much needed twists and turns, making it another fantastic party game. Overcooked! All You Can Eat combines all the content of the first two Overcooked games (and their DLC) into one large game, giving players the chance to play around in the ultimate Overcooked experiences without having to load a second game. While much of this game's appeal lies in the fact that it's releasing on a host of new platforms, All You Can Eat is more than worth a purchase if you've never gotten around to playing either of the first two games.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life

Release Date: March 25, 2021
Platforms: Windows and XBO
Developer/Publisher: Ryu ga Gotoku Studios, SEGA

Though Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has been out on PS4 since December 2018, March will see the action-adventure game's release on Windows and Xbox consoles. This game wraps up the saga of Kazuma Kiryu, plunging players once more into his life of crime and the fallout from the previous games. A combination of RPG and fighting game aesthetics, the Yakuza saga is one of the most popular franchises to be released in Japan and has received a lot of critical praise in the United States. With the remakes of the first two games hitting newer consoles in recent years, it's the perfect time for players to take a look at how the story ends.

It Takes Two is a wild co-op adventure that puts players in the shoes of two soon-to-be divorced humans who have been trapped in the bodies of dolls. The game is a pure co-op experience that requires not only a fair bit of communication, but also the kind of precision teamwork that makes for a truly unique experience. With a very bright aesthetic and a truly gripping story, It Takes Two is a great choice for those who are looking for a game that's meant to be played with a partner.

KINGDOM HEARTS

Release Date: March 30, 2021
Platforms: Windows
Developer/Publisher: Square Enix

One of the most surprising and most anticipated releases to drop this month is the KINGDOM HEARTS Collection for PC. Though some of these games have been floating around the console world for nearly two decades, this is the first time that the series has ever been available on PC. Consisting of virtually every Kingdom Hearts experience to ever be released across multiple platforms, these compilation games will give PC players a chance to experience the Final Fantasy/Disney crossover series in a way that not only allows them to see the series from beginning to end, but that provides updated experiences across the board. This is definitely a huge get for anyone who has never played the games in their original formats.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut

Release Date: March TBC
Platforms: Stadia, PS4, PS5, and as a free upgrade for existing Windows players
Developer/Publisher: ZA/UM

Disco Elysium gained a great deal of praise as one of the more unique RPGs to be released in recent years. Disco Elysium: The Final Cut adds a little bit of new material to the game as it drops on a few new platforms, adding more to the philosophical nature of the original game while also providing resolution to a few dangling plot threads. The developers consider this version of the game to be the ultimate Disco Elysium experience and those who think they've seen everything that the RPG genre has to offer absolutely owe it to themselves to check out this version of the game.

Cyber Knights: Flashpoint

Release Date: March TBC
Platforms: Windows
Developer/Publisher: Trese Brothers

While the genre of cyberpunk might not have the same amount of shine on it as it did a few months ago, that doesn't meant that there isn't still quite a bit to mine in this type of setting. Cyber Knights: Flashpoint takes players to a unique cyberpunk world, allowing them to engage in tactical combat alongside a host of different characters with their own unique abilities. A great blend of strategic combat and sci-fi aesthetics, this game is a great fit for those who have loved titles like X-Com and have been looking for similar experiences.
