Goose Goose Duck Is a Free Among Us but With Adorable Waterfowl
Another Party Game
If you’re a gamer or know a gamer, or if you’re more or less familiar with video games as a concept, then you’ve probably heard of Among Us.
Given the immense popularity and relative simplicity of Among Us, it’s not surprising that similar games have been developed, attempting to tap into the same market. Goose Goose Duck is one of those games.
Okay, that’s it, that’s the review.
What, You’re Still Here?
What, you want more than that? Like, why does Gaggle Studios think that we’ll play their new game instead of the already well-established one? All right, read on.
Among Us has been the smash indie game hit of the past year. In Innersloth’s social deduction game, you and up to nine friends play cute, cartoony little aliens wandering around a 2D spaceship. You have a list of tasks to accomplish. But some of the crew are Impostors in disguise.
As in many social deduction games - such as Unfortunate Spacemen, Project Winter, and Town of Salem - the Impostors attempt to murder the legitimate Crewmates, while the Crewmates try to figure out who’s who. However, in Among Us, the Crewmates also have jobs to do, and if they accomplish all their tasks, they win. Even murdered Crewmates can complete their tasks as ghosts.
Most of the crew are Geese, but a few are treacherous Ducks masquerading as Geese.
Goose Goose Duck is the same thing, even down to the spaceship. Instead of cute aliens, you play adorable waterfowl. Most of the crew are Geese, but a few are treacherous Ducks masquerading as Geese. As in Among Us, the murders are accomplished via creatively animated cutscenes.
So, Why Play It?
So, if Goose Goose Duck is exactly like Among Us, why play it? Why not just stick to the original? Well, actually, there are some pretty good reasons.
First of all, the price of trying it out is low. It’s free-to-play! All you stand to lose is a little time.
Second, many of the more dedicated Among Us players out there aren’t playing the vanilla game anymore. Among Us has been extensively modded, and different versions have introduced a multitude of fun play-style variations and innovations.
Gaggle Studios has had the benefit of seeing what other features players wanted from Among Us.
Gaggle Studios has had the benefit of seeing what other features players wanted from Among Us. They’ve chosen the most appealing features and integrated them into the game so that players don’t have to use mods. In effect, they’ve used Among Us as an Early Access version of their game, which is now itself in Early Access.
What Changes Does Goose Goose Duck Make?
Goose Goose Duck varies from Among Us in a few ways:
- Support for up to 16 players (Among Us has a maximum of 10)
- Built-in voice chat
- A crafting system that lets you collect materials and create new cosmetics
- Alternate game modes, including Hide-and-Seek and Goose Hunt
- Optional new roles, including the Dodo Bird, the Cannibal, the Vigilante, and the Morphling
It looks like, as in some of the more popular Among Us mods, the new roles will have special abilities which change the way the game is played.
Goose Goose Duck offers customizable costumes, hats, and pets.
There are also a few variations of less importance. Like Among Us, Goose Goose Duck offers customizable costumes, hats, and pets. But it also adds customizable farts. I honestly don’t know how many players were demanding that. Maybe it was a lot.
So, Will Goose Goose Duck Be the Next Big Game?
Obviously, that’s a rhetorical question. People are unpredictable! It’s possible, even likely, that Goose Goose Duck will be relegated to the purgatory of multiplayer games that don’t have enough players. But with a little bit of luck and savvy, who knows? Perhaps someday Among Us will be primarily mentioned as a precursor to Goose Goose Duck.
