Top 10 Video Games Coming in September 2021
Pumpkin spice lattes aren't the only thing to look forward to this September. The first month of Fall 2021 offers a stacked selection of video game releases and updates for PC and consoles.
In order of release, here are the top 10 most anticipated games you won't want to miss next month:

1. The Medium
A third-person psychological horror, The Medium is a thrilling and disturbing game in which you explore both the real world and the spirit world.
The Medium is currently available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and will be released on September 2, 2021 for the PlayStation 5.
Gameplay
The Medium features immersive dual-reality gameplay with stunning and unique visuals that fully pull you into each world.
You’ll play as Marianne, the medium who travels between the worlds, and you’ll have to use her psychic abilities to solve puzzles and combat hostile forces and several encounters with the disturbing entity known as The Maw.
As you go through the game, not only does the incredibly haunting artwork draw you in, but the gorgeous soundtrack effortlessly sets the mood.
2. Sonic Colors Ultimate
Sonic the Hedhog games are some of the best action platformers around, and Sonic Colors Ultimate will be no exception. It is an enhanced version of the original, and it’s filled with numerous upgrades such as enhanced graphics and visuals, a new game mode, and smoother, refined controls. Even with the enhancements, you’ll still race through multiple worlds and navigate dangerous obstacles in colorful and thrilling environments.

Gameplay
In this fun video game, Sonic is in a race to help free a race of colorful aliens known as “Wisps” from Dr. Eggman. To do so, he must cross six challenging, theme park-inspired worlds known as the Interstellar Amusement Park.
3. Life is Strange: True Colors
The fifth addition to the beloved Life is Strange franchise, Life is Strange: True Colors follows a young woman named Alex Chen. With her psychic Empathy powers, Alex must embrace them if she wants to find out the truth behind the alleged “accident” that led to her brother’s death.
You can play this story-rich adventure game on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia on September 9, 2021.
Gameplay
In third-person POV, players control Alex as she goes through the fictional town of Haven Springs, meeting various NPCs along the way.
All of them have auras Alex can see, and using the Empathy powers, she can become “infected” by them. Through this, players learn about their trauma and how to help them resolve their issues.
4. Deathloop
The next highly anticipated title on our list is a first-person, action-adventure game that features single-player and multiplayer modes. Deathloop shoots you on an epic journey to end the time loop the assassin, known as Colt, is trapped in on the island of Blackreef. But be wary as some island inhabitants, including the rival assassin Julianna, will see Colt dead to keep the loop going.
Deathloop can be pre-ordered for PC and PlaySation 5 before its release on September 14, 2021.
Gameplay
As Colt, you must eliminate eight targets before midnight to stop the loop. He’s aided by the fact that he remembers everything the other residents don’t each time the loop restarts.
However, if playing multiplayer, you take on the role of Julianna and interfere with another player’s game to defeat Colt instead.
5. Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Kena: Bridge of Spirits was set to release in August but was pushed back to September 21, 2021. An action-adventure, story-driven game, this follows a Spirit Guide known as Kena, as she travels to a lost and forgotten village to discover its secrets and help the spirits trapped within and restore the area once and for all.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits can be enjoyed on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Gameplay
Featuring stunning, vibrant graphics, players will venture through this eye-catching world to draw on the power of the Spirit Realm. You’ll also build up a team of spirit companions called Rot to help transform the environment.
There is fast-paced combat as Kena encounters trapped, corrupt spirits who attack her at any chance they get.
6. Diablo II Resurrected
Diablo II Resurrected is a mash-up action role-playing game as it’s both a remaster of the original Diablo II and its later expansion Lord of Destruction. The heart of the game remains as it’s still filled with horror and dark fantasy themes.
Diablo II Resurrected is playable on PC, PlayStation4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on September 23, 2021.
Gameplay
Players of the original game will notice an upgrade in the graphics and 3D models. This is especially apparent in the cutscenes. If you want some more nostalgia, then you can toggle between the upgraded visuals and the legacy ones.
You can even import save files from the original game to play from a specific part.
7. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
Hideo Kojima's gives this already jaw-dropping, genre-defying game gets a remastered expansion with the Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. You’ll still be playing as Sam Bridges to reunite a broken, apocalyptic world one delivery at a time.
Unlike the original Death Stranding game, the Director's Cut version is only playable on the PlayStation 5.
Gameplay
Much of the gameplay here isn’t different if you’ve already played Death Stranding. The Director’s Cut merely adds and enhances the adventure. Deliveries are easier as you can call on Buddy Bot for a ride or glide through the air with thrusters.
There’s even some game expansion seen as you can explore a mysterious facility.
8. Ghostrunner
Fight to survive in Ghostrunner, aFPP slasher that thrusts players into a harsh and violent post-apocalyptic world. With your superhuman reflexes, you’ll hack and slash your way through enemies to reach the top of Dharma Tower to confront the totalitarian ruler Keymaster.
Ghostrunner is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Luna. On September 28, 2021, the action game will upgrade onto the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Gameplay
Excitement is everywhere with the gameplay here as Jack, the Ghostrunner, can grapple, wall-run, and even dash. He can slow time to dodge bullets, and care must be taken when fighting as enemies and Jack can die from one hit.
Throughout Ghostrunner, you can upgrade abilities too to expand on Jack’s skills.
9. New World
New World is a massive open-world MMO that tosses you in the shoes of an adventurer that’s been shipwrecked on Aeternum, an incredible supernatural island. Magic is everywhere on this land as it brings both wonders and horrors, and you must fight to make your own destiny there.
After several delays, New World is set to launch on September 28, 2021 and is only playable on PC.
Gameplay
This features real-time combat using ranged weapons, melee weapons, or supernatural powers. You decide exactly how you’ll fight from being a support for your allies or racing to the front of the pack.
You’re able to group with up to five people and join one of three fractions. Along the way, you’ll gather resources, rank your skills up, destroy monsters, or just explore this beautiful and vast world.
10. Astria Ascending
Astria Ascending is a JRPG that features the Fated Eight, the demi-gods protecting the five cities in the land. With invading monsters known as “Noises”, these heroes must work together to restore Harmony.
This beautiful tale can be played on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
Gameplay
There’s an instant appeal to this game thanks to the lively and distinctive hand-drawn visuals. Also, you’re granted every character in your party right away, and each of them has their own stories to play. This gives more than a dozen dungeons to explore throughout the five cities.
For combat, it’s turn-based and strategy is needed for the crew to work together in each battle.
