With Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, the popular and epic gothic fantasy series finds new life thanks to its revival through Apple Arcade. Immerse yourself in the rich world as you fight to keep Dracula from being resurrected.

Story Expansion

Taking a page out of the incredible Castlevania series, Grimoire of Souls features an original story to serve as an expansion of the universe.

The main purpose of the game is to thwart Dracula’s plans of resurrection. As you do so, you’ll have to navigate through the often-perilous world that’s written within the grimoires. This is because the grimoires are now overflowing with dark power. Thus, it must be contained.

The only way to dissipate all that power is by diving into the grimoires and defeating the monsters that are inscribed into them.

Within the game, there are several deadly traps to conquer as well as hoards of demonic enemies and fearsome bosses to battle. All the cool fighting and storyline spans across 60 different levels.

Fun Art Style

Although it is obvious from any longtime fan of Castlevania that Grimoire of Souls looks different, it does have its own level of charm.

The graphics are a bit more old-fashioned but backed by a consistent anime style that is colorful and easily attention-grabbing. There is a great deal of detail in the backgrounds of each level, making you eager to keep exploring to discover more.

Alongside that, when characters are speaking, they are larger with their name and text below them for simple reading. It’s then that you notice the effort and time spent on the character designs, making them as realistic as possible within the confines of the art style.

As we mention the art style, we just have to bring up the characters involved in Grimoire of Souls.

This game allows you to play as and join alongside several of the iconic characters found within the Castlevania series.

Fans will recognize playable characters like Alucard, Simon, Arikado, Maria, Charlotte, and Shanoa. Meanwhile, other allies will come along the way. This includes characters like Lucy Westenra, Jonathan Morris, Albus, and more.

These characters have their own skills that you have to master, and the game puts you to work at unlocking these moves so that you can properly defeat the enemies.

Grimoire of Souls – A Breath of Fresh Air

Indeed, Grimoire of Souls isn’t a completely new entry as it is a bonus to the franchise via a mobile game design, it is still a welcoming addition to the epic Castlevania universe. Many of the beloved characters are there for you to play with or fight alongside.

This even offers a cool classic gameplay style that encourages you to return session after session to discover new levels, skills, characters, and more of the story. There's even the welcoming soundtrack from Castlevania that firmly transports you into the universe.

As this revival lacks one of the complaints from the original game and is instead free-to-play, we consider it worth checking out.
